The founder of Med Max Consulting, LLC, Dr. Ashley R. Walker, is a dedicated advocate for the deaf community and a seasoned medical consultant to the healthcare industry. With a passion for inclusivity and accessibility, the founder has worked tirelessly to bridge gaps in healthcare services and promote better communication and understanding within the industry. Their extensive experience and commitment to excellence drive the mission of Med Max Consulting to deliver superior healthcare solutions and support for all.

My Story

I lost my hearing at the tender age of 4 years old for reasons unknown. It certainly rocked my parents’ world, as there is no history of anyone deaf on either side of the family tree. Despite the diagnosis, my parents decided right then and there that they would not treat me any differently. Instead, we would work together as a family to overcome whatever obstacles would come our way. The support from my family is what gave me the mindset of “You can accomplish any and everything you set out to do.”

It was the world that told me, “No. You can’t do this. You can’t do that. You are deaf. Impossible.” All those negative words gave me the fire I needed to keep pressing forward and chasing after my dreams. I graduated high school, completed my undergraduate studies, and earned my Doctor of Pharmacy degree. All the trials and tribulations I endured during this journey helped mold me into the fierce advocate I am today for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.

Growing up as a deaf individual and practicing as a pharmacist has given me a unique advantage. I know firsthand the struggles that deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals encounter when they receive healthcare services because I also experienced and continue to experience them.

On the other hand, I also see the barriers that hinder healthcare professionals from effectively and efficiently engaging with the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. I want to help bridge the gap between healthcare professionals and the deaf and hard-of-hearing community in a way that fosters inclusivity.

Healthcare outcomes among individuals within the deaf and hard-of-hearing community are subpar. There are higher incidences of increased hospitalizations, medication errors, medication misuse, etc., within this community due to a lack of accessible communication. Witnessing it and experiencing it myself has given me the desire to educate both parties on ways to work collaboratively while enhancing patient empowerment for those within the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. I want to see more healthcare professionals feel confident in their ability to serve and assist members of this unique community. I want to empower members of this exceptional community with educational and medication counseling services utilizing clear communication methods that will allow for comprehensive support in managing their health independently.

Why I Do It?

I created Med Max Consulting to support the deaf community and provide the best advice to healthcare providers to be more accessible in my community because I recognized a significant gap in healthcare services for this population. My passion for inclusivity and understanding of the unique challenges faced by the deaf and hard-of-hearing community inspired me to take action. I aim to be the change I wish to see.
